Top Tips for a Roarsome Night’s Sleep

For those of you who came to the Roarsome Summit last year, you may have met our friends at Bundle Beds? They make the most roarsome travel beds for the whole family, and we’ve been stocking Bundle Beds on our site for a few years now. They have created a revolutionary new take on a travel bed, with everything that you need for a great night’s sleep in one bundle – genius!

But, what we love even more about them is that they were founded on the principle of less stuff and more adventures (aided by more sleep!). Bundle Beds are designed to fill years and years of adventure rather than landfill and their sustainability promise is one they take really seriously.

No one wants a trip away to go pear-shaped due to over tired children. Whether you’re coming to the Roarsome Summit this year, jetting off abroad, or setting off on one of our Roarsome adventures, you want everyone to be full of energy for the day ahead. We chatted to the Chief Bundler Lucy about her top tips for a Roarsome night’s sleep with kids. Here’s what she had to say…

Family holidays do not have to be a sleepless disaster!

As big fans of family travel and camping ourselves, we’ve got a few tricks up our pyjama sleeves to ensure the whole family are recharged and ready for adventures…

Keep things familiar for the kids

Whilst holidays are often about exploring new places, you can help to keep the kids feeling safe and secure at night by creating a familiar sleep space. Bring a favourite pillow case or blanket from home (or of course Bundle Beds are perfect for acting as their own bed away from home) and consider a practice camp-out in the living room with any new gear.

Block light & Muffle sounds

Long Summer Days are an absolute dream for adventures… apart from when you’re looking for a long night’s sleep! It’s all about making the room dark with a blackout travel blind or blackout tent or popping on an eye mask to block out the light. These are great not only for getting to sleep, but also brilliant for stopping the early morning light and to avoid being up before the lark.

Family hotels or campsites aren’t known to be the quietest places, and there is nothing worse than a loud noises keeping you up. If you’re not a fan of wearing ear plugs, then we find that quietly playing audiobooks, white noise or sleep music whilst we drift off, helps to distract from the general background noise.

Calm Down to Sleep

It’s so easy to just whizz back and get the kids straight into bed after a fun day out. Taking 5-10 minutes to have a chilled moment can help make the bedtime routine go that little bit more smoothly. We tend to lie on the Bundle Beds before story time and each of us pick our favourite part of the day. We also have a chat about the plans for the following day so that they go to sleep knowing what adventures lie ahead.

We stick to a similar(ish) bedtime as at home, which keeps the kids well rested. We give the kids a wash in the shower or bath (we used to use a bucket when they were babies!), brush teeth get them into PJs and then have bedtime stories in their Bundle Beds.

And for those of you who are camping, glamping or off to a festival…

“The kids won’t sleep in a tent.” – This is NOT true! In fact, my kids actually sleep longer when we’re camping, I think because of all the fresh air. They’re early risers at home they have been known to sleep past 8am on a camping trip!

Pre-empt the cold

Even on warm Summer days, evenings can be chilly. As soon as the sun begins to set, we pop on a fleece, or put the kids in a onesie or Roarsome dry robe. For bed, we tend to dress in long sleeved PJs, with a cosy pair of socks over the top. And if it’s super chilly, we’ll also add a beanie and a onesie over the top of PJs for the kids.

Have a comfy bed that’s easy to set up.

It won’t take many guesses to work out what I’ll be recommending… but it really is important to make sure you’ve got a mattress that isn’t going to deflate in the night, or a sleeping bag that’s not damp and stinky!

Bundle Beds were designed to make life easy. The mattresses self-inflate and have a layer of memory foam for extra comfort. They come with a duvet and pillow covered with super cosy jersey cotton sheets, keeping you snug at night. Plus, you can strip off and wash all of the bedding like your own bed at home, meaning that you can have fresh sheets even in the tent!

Happy bundling!
