Sustainability

Keep the great outdoors great

To keep the great outdoors great, we need to protect it. We use our clothing and adventures to encourage a greater love for mother nature by getting people outside. By doing so, we can empower the next generation to care more about the welfare of our planet as they grow up!

our initiatives

Materials

All of our Snow Suits, Coats, Swimwear, Sportswear, Beanies & Helmet Covers are made from recycled plastic bottles. The post-consumer bottles are cleaned, chopped into flake, melted into chip and then turned into yarn. The two suppliers that we use for this are REPREVE® & FENC® TopGreen®. Our Base Layers and Neck Warmers are made from Bamboo which has eco-friendly, thermal-regulating properties as well as being breathable, hypoallergenic and antimicrobial.

Why RPET?

In 2019 we made the decision to swap polyester for RPET. Transforming disused plastic into clothing to save it from the ocean or landfill seemed like (and still seems like) the best option for anyone in the fashion industry who wants to protect the planet. The manufacturing process of RPET is also said to generate 60% less water pollution than virgin PET and far less CO2 emissions. We’ve now recycled almost 1,000,000 plastic bottles into epic kids clothing.

Resale

Our kids clothing is designed to fit for two years (kids grow quick!) but every item is made to last much longer. In partnership with Little Loop, Roarsome offers a pre-loved service that extends product lifecycle. This initiative reduces waste and promotes circular economy. Re-selling kids clothing saves up to 79% of carbon emissions associated with sending an item to landfill!

Fulfilment

In 2021 we transitioned our entire warehousing and fulfilment programme to Green Fulfilment as part of a long term partnership, focused on reducing our environmental impact. This has ensured that we use paper instead of plastic as void fill when packing orders; we use paper based packing tape rather than polystyrene; we use power-saving, automatic shut-off lights in offices; all plastics & cardboards are recycled; online reporting has eliminated print outs; we use biodegradable mailing bags.

Events

Our annual Roarsome Summit is a three-day adventure weekend that promotes outdoor activities, environmental education, and community engagement, fostering a deeper connection to nature among families. Every year this weekend culminates in a big community beach clean, empowering kids to care for our planet as they grow up.

Trees

One of the best tools to tackle the climate crisis and keep our temperatures from rising above 1.5C is by planting new trees. In particular, Mangrove trees capture up to 4x as much carbon per acre than tropical rainforests. We’ve partnered with the brilliant Ecologi and committed to planting a new tree for every item sold on our website. You can add more trees by visiting ecologi.com/roarsome

Stores

Roarsome’s physical stores and pop-up installations emphasise sustainability. We've taken measures to ensure that environmental practises are implemented throughout the design process. We swapped our energy provider to 100% renewable sources; we used trace VOC paint; cushions, curtains & furnishings are recycled textiles, wooden panelling is reclaimed palette wood, feature walls are made from recycled felt.

sustainability in fashion

Sustainability in fashion is becoming increasingly confusing. The landscape and research is constantly changing and we’re excited for new regulations which will provide a huge amount of clarification on best practise and certification to improve the industry. We don’t claim to be perfect but we’re working hard to choose fabrics, materials and processes which best protect our planet.
